You would think having two companies (Voucherline and TheGiftCardCentre) already in the gift card space, then Caroline Watson would stop and enjoy the fruits of her and her team’s labour.  But no!  Do not be fooled.  A brand new gift card and platform has just launched called My Toolbox Card which is part owned by Caroline and managed by her team.

Aimed towards the DIY, Hobby and Construction users – My Toolbox Card is available in digital format and also physical gift cards. The card is UK based at the moment.

My Toolbox Card is a 2 step gift card, with recipients and purchasers visiting www.mytoolboxcard.com to register or purchase the My Toolbox gift card/s, and recipients are then are presented with over 30 High Street brands of gift cards to choose from including Screwfix, TK Maxx, Homesense, M&S, B&Q, B&M, John Lewis, Argos, Habitat, Hobbycraft and other great leading stores who have fantastic homeware, DIY and hobby supplies in the UK market.

So why a gift card for this marketplace?

Daniel Lynn - a builder and roofer came to Caroline with the idea for a gift card aimed at the popular DIY market back in early 2020.  “Most builders and construction workers that I spoke to in my early research, prefer to receive a gift that is related to what they do” said Daniel.  “I contacted many companies trying to find someone to even talk to me to hear my ideas.  It was not easy!  Finding Voucherline and then Caroline was so exciting.

Persuading Caroline to take on another company however, was not that easy!  Patience is key, and after enough of me knocking down her door, with Covid in-between, she too researched into the industry, and we arrived at the same page.”

“I am afraid I did put some major blockers up to Daniel!” says Caroline.  “I do not take projects on that I cannot see to fruition and I knew the amount of work needed to get this off the ground:

Investment into the right platform, getting the brands on board, making sure that our customers could spend their Toolbox cards easily, and then finding the customers who would love gifting this card to their recipients is not an easy task, ”.

Voucherline and TheGiftCardCentre have had their own gift cards for years that transact on their websites, so this was not something completely new to Caroline and her team.

“We started with the branding of the gift card and company.  It needed to be simple and striking and we decided not to feature any brands on the packaging or card as we did not want anyone taking the cards into stores.  This also meant it was a little easier for the brands to approve and work with us, and we would not be left with stock of physical cards if any brand had to be removed or get added to the platform.

We were so thankful of our great contacts in the industry, who were so helpful and happy to get involved, and are very proud of the brands that have joined us on this journey” says Caroline.

“We have had a great reaction so far from agencies and resellers looking to stock it, and consumers are already purchasing it from our online platforms, so we are thrilled to help plug this gap in the market with a fantastic DIY and Hobby gift card.

“Next phase will be that we will create a social community of home improvers” says Caroline.  This is the part I am really looking forward to.  Sharing projects that customers have done with My Toolbox Card and suggesting products to purchase from within the platform is something new that as far as we are aware, and no other 2 step gift card offers” says Caroline.  “Let’s not be satisfied with just creating a gift card, lets create a fantastic gift card”.
